Aurora Consurgens is the sixth studio album by the power metal band Angra. It was released in October 2006 by Paradoxx Music in Brazil and SPV label Steamhammer in the rest of the world. This is the last album to feature drummer Aquiles Priester. The title comes from the medieval text of the same name attributed to Thomas Aquinas, which was later used by Carl Jung for relating dreams to the different states of mind. However, all lyrics do have a common theme: the various mental issues, including suicidal tendencies, schizophrenia, manic depression, sociopathy, etc. Recording information . On their sixth full-length overall, 2006's Aurora Consurgens, you get truckloads of opera-like vocals, finely honed guitar harmonies and riffs, and of course, drumming so perfectly on-time that it would make your average metronome green with envy. Although the group is quick to point out that Aurora Consurgens is not a concept album, it does manage to deal with the relationship between alchemy and psychological transformation. Could the chaps have invented a new metal subgenre - psychological metal . Like many of their contemporaries, the music is very guitar orientated, with the fast, heavy riffs leading the band through each of the songs.
