1962 Milan Concert. Theres a reason that this 1962 performance by the John Coltrane Quartet in Milan is considered a rare recording: its a bootleg, pure and simple. Either taken from a radio broadcast or from some more primitive source - the latter seems more likely since the only two things one can really hear are Trane and McCoy Tyner - this gig showcases the band at the height of transition. Eric Dolphy, who had played with Coltrane in 1961 through early 1962, is gone, leaving the core band to do its thing at this stage - and the quartet does it beautifully. Coltrane is a 1962 studio album by jazz saxophonist John Coltrane. When reissued on CD, it featured a Coltrane composition dedicated to his hero Big Nick Nicholas that Coltrane would record later the same year for his Duke Ellington collaboration Duke Ellington & John Coltrane. The composition Tunji was written by Coltrane in dedication to the Nigerian drummer Babatunde Olatunji. John Coltrane - The Paris Concert 1962. To favorites 1 Download album. Listen album. This is the long . complete concert in Graz, Poland from 1962. It features the classic quartet of Coltrane, Tyner, Garrison, and Jones playing well known favorites like Bye Bye Blackbird, The Inchworm, Mr. a nice version from the entire band, I Want To Talk About You with some good Coltrane solos, Impressions, and with some lovely lyrical passages from Coltrane My Favorite Things. Coltrane's European tour in the autumn of 1962 is my favorite period to listen to, his playing went in both directions at once. The Milan concert gets a bad rap and is often called unlistenable. This is hogwash, it's really not that bad. The Paris Concert John Coltrane album. The Paris Concert is a posthumously-released live album by jazz musician John Coltrane. Despite the album title, some sources assert it was recorded at a concert in Berlin on 2 November 1963. Other music from this concert was issued on Afro Blue Impressions. Others claim it was indeed recorded in Paris, on 17 November 1962. Original CD release The Paris Concert Pablo. The Inchworm - 10:07.
